Recipes

All of my recipes are created to be quick, healthy, delicious and vegan (meaning they use no animal foods). They are meat-free, fish-free, dairy-free, and egg-free.

Most are also gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, or can easily be made so with some simple swaps. They are free of refined sugars, and most don't use any added sweeteners so many are suitable for diabetics.

I also sometimes share recipes from other people, and I am always conscious of choosing a recipe that is as healthy and vegan as I would make myself.

If you feel overwhelmed by recipes, you should pick up my online meal plan so that I can show you how to put recipes together into a balanced and nutritious eating plan.

Matcha Lime Chia Pudding + GIVEAWAY!

Decadent and rich - and super healthy - matcha lime chia pudding

This is a decadent and rich dessert, and is super healthy at the same time! It's a refreshing and beautiful way to finish off a summer meal.

Thanks to some special matcha green tea powder from MyMatchaLife, this dessert is packed with age-defying antioxidants, brain boosting amino acids, and fat-burning compounds called ECGC.

This special foodies' grade of matcha is less processed, and retains higher levels of catechins ("cat-e-kins") than other matcha green tea powders. Catechins are a powerful antioxidant, and help specifically to minimize inflammation in your body.

Catechins have also been studied for their effect on fat-burning potential. A 2005 study found that "body weight, BMI, waist circumference, body fat mass, and subcutaneous fat area were significantly lower in the green tea extract group than in the control group." They concluded that "daily consumption of tea containing 690 mg catechins for 12 wk reduced body fat, which suggests that the ingestion of catechins might be useful in the prevention and improvement of lifestyle-related diseases, mainly obesity."

I don't know about you, but when I read that I want to go get some matcha in me! Check out the recipe, then scroll down below to enter the giveaway!

And if you want to order some of the barista grade (for lattes and smoothies) or the ceremonial grade (for pure matcha green tea) - or just can't wait for the giveaway! - you can get 15% off your order from MyMatchaLife if you use the code HEATHER15 on checkout! Good till July 31.

This recipe features matcha, in all its antioxidant and fat-burning glory, and pairs with lime, for even more fat-burning potential plus increasing the bioavailability of the compounds in matcha, and chia seeds for omega-3 and calcium.

This is absolutely, 110%, guilt-free dessert!

But shhhh... don't tell anyone that till they try a bite and see how delicious it is! The look of surprise is totally worth it.

Creamy Sunflower Hemp Milk Recipe

DIY sunflower hemp milk, rich in zinc, selenium, and omega-3

You can make your own plant-based milks at home so easily! This one is a combination of sunflower and hemp seeds for a boost of zinc, selenium, and omega-3.

There are so many choices out there in stores for non-dairy milks, but sometimes it's nice to know you can make your own at home in minutes!

Sunflower seeds are one of the foods that I eat every day, because it's difficult to get enough selenium, which is important for your immune system, as well as healthy hair, skin, and nails.

The Veggie Queen’s Husband’s Daily Green Smoothie

This is a husband-friendly green smoothie, complete with tips on making 'smoothie cubes' for freezer-ready smoothies while you're away traveling to keep him in the green...

This recipe comes from Jill's fantastic book Nutrition CHAMPS, which includes tons of amazing recipes from some very talented vegan chefs--including me!

Jill's smoothie-making notes:

"I make this daily. It can be made with kale, collards or your favorite green although it’s not especially tasty to my husband with anything bitter like arugula. I soak the nuts overnight, drain and store in the refrigerator for the week. I also rehydrate the chia weekly by combining 3 tablespoons chia seed with 1 cup water and mixing well."
