Homemade Medicinal Detox Tea

To give your body a nourishing treat try this homemade detox tea recipe! Using medicinal herbs support your body’s cleansing organs, and help your body to purge toxins.

Adding herbs to your diet it a great idea, but an even easier way to prepare them is to make them into a tea, so that their nutrients and active constituents infuse into the water, which also helps by hydrating you.

Homemade Medicinal Detox Tea

Makes 4 cups of tea, enough for 2 people for 1 day (or 1 person for 2 days

Ingredients

  • 6 cups cool, filtered water
  • 1/2 teaspoon dandelion root (pictured below)
  • 1/2 teaspoon marshmallow root
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquorice root
  • 1/2 teaspoon burdock root
  • 1/2 teaspoon milk thistle seeds
  • 4-5 cardamom pods
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • 3 small slices fresh ginger root

Directions

  1. Put the water in a glass or ceramic pot or kettle and add all of the herbs. Bring to a boil, then keep at a low boil for 30 minutes, or until the water has reduced by a third to about 4 cups.
  2. Strain the herbs out, and keep in a sealed container in the fridge.
  3. Drink 3-4 half-cup servings per day throughout your detox.
