Warm Spiced Applesauce

Warm Spiced Applesauce
Heather Nicholds, C.H.N.

This is a really simple way to make applesauce into an amazingly delicious breakfast, dinner or dessert addition.

You can use whatever spices you like – I went traditional in the video, though I would have loved to add some cardamom for a unique flavor.

You could also add a bit of molasses for a more gingerbread-like sauce.

And for a creamy applesauce, you could stir in a bit of almond or cashew butter, which would also help to soften the spices on your tongue.

So many possibilities and variations of yumminess – then the difficulty becomes how to serve and enjoy it…

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1 24oz (or so) jar unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 Tbsp pure maple syrup (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat a pot to medium-high, then add the spices, stirring or shaking frequently to make sure they don’t burn.
  2. Once the spices are toasted, stir in the applesauce and maple syrup. Serve warm, or put back in the jar to keep in the fridge.
