Sharing Videos Online: Behind The Scenes Of My Camera And Process

Sharing Videos Online: Behind The Scenes Of My Camera And Process
Heather Nicholds, C.H.N.

Sharing videos online has nothing to do with healthy eating, but is a really fun – though time consuming – part of my life.

I really enjoy having the interaction with you guys. I can share information, my thoughts and the fun I’m having in the kitchen.

And then I love getting comments and feedback from you guys. It gives me so much energy and is really what keeps me going.

It’s pretty much the best part of my day to read what you have to say and hear about the energy that I can pass on to you.

I’m not a professional video producer, and I don’t aim to be one. I like to keep things simple, and feel more like we’re chatting than a flashy, fancy video.

Having been online sharing videos for over 5 years now, I have a lot of tips and secrets to share. I put together a PDF of 5 of my best tips for shooting pro-quality videos on your phone:

I’m a video production team of one – me. I set my camera on a tripod, and my video assistant is my remote control.

The video camera I use is a Canon Vixia HF200, which is an HD camera. Because I shoot high quality video, it takes a lot of time to edit and render.

I’ve looked into lower quality cameras, and ones that can upload directly, but they don’t give me the control I want over white balance and editing clips together and such.

I use Adobe Premiere to edit my videos together, and my poor laptop struggles to process the raw footage into mp4. I have a pretty elaborate set-up to keep it from overheating…

One thing I do to save some time is I use a site called OneLoad (used to be called TubeMogul). If any of you share videos online, you should look into this site because it saves a huge amount of time.

I upload my videos once to my OneLoad account, and then I can distribute them to all different video sharing sites (like YouTube, My Space, Blip) with one click.

Another huge bonus is that if the upload fails part way through, it’ll resume from where it left off. When I have sketchy internet connections while traveling, this saves my sanity.

After I get through the filming, editing and uploading process, then I get to hear from you!

So please keep sharing your thoughts and leaving comments. While I don’t always have time to reply to everyone, I do read every single one you write.

Like I said, that’s the best part of my day!
